Meet Reyni

We just adopted him from the Dominican Republic. Okay...not literally, but through Compassion International. Jason and I have had many discussions lately about world poverty and how frustrating it is that the money is somewhere to solve that problem, but instead is spent on selfish desires and politics. We decided that even though we could not end world poverty, we could at least make a difference in one child's life right now. As Mother Teresa says, "In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love." AND "It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish." AND "If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one." I think she was really into helping others. :-)

We almost adopted a little boy from Thailand, since we have a special place in our hearts for Thailand, but then opted for something different. Reyni has the EXACT same birthday as Elijah - May 13, 2004, and he was the only one of thousands of children that did. We felt that was a sign from God that we should adopt him. Our prayer is that our money will allow him to be fed, get an education and learn about God. We also pray that our son will learn that there are others much less fortunate than himself, that he is blessed and that Jesus taught us to help the poor and love them. We will be in regular contact with Reyni through letters and I pray that he and Elijah become friends as they grow, and one day perhaps we can go and visit him. When Judah is around the same age, we hope to adopt another little boy with his exact birthday.

Just FYI, we looked into Compassion through many different sources, and it is legit - all of your money goes straight to the child for food, education, medical care and an avenue to learn about Christ. If this interests you, there are thousands of other precious children that would benefit greatly from your generosity. For now, I'm praying that our world will come together to wipe out world poverty altogether!

I just started a sponsorship for a little girl named Shierralyn in the Philippines. I was pleased to learn that she'll be able to go to school because of the support money she receives. Can you imagine if education had not been an opportunity for us? Compassion is a great organization that really cares about children learning about Jesus' personal love for them. Thanks for highlighting Compsassion on your blog!

Hey!! We adopted a little boy from Compassion International a few months ago! I agree - we did some research and felt this was a good source to go through. Good for you guys, and how awesome that he and Elijah have the same birthday! :)
