embassy trip to ethiopia {bringing evie home}

Daddy and Grangoat headed to Ethiopia on April 26th to bring our baby girl home.

Welcome to beautiful Ethiopia.

The day they arrived, they headed straight over to visit with Evie. Here she is the day she re-united with her Daddy - the day before placement.

Giving her her milk and finding out her likes, dislikes, schedule, etc.

Meeting Grangoat for the first time.

They came back the next day and took placement of Evie -
which means "she's yours forever!"

I'm sure Daddy just hated her falling asleep on him. :-)

Hilawe had a coffee / goodbye ceremony for her and another child leaving the orphanage with their forever families. They presented her with a traditional Ethiopian dress, handmade card and banner with the Amharic alphabet on it. The director said a few words and a prayer.

Looking at the photo album of our family that we had left with her in March.

Sharing the ceremonial bread.

She had such wonderful care at Hilawe and we are forever grateful to her sweet nannies that loved her so much. Here are a few of them telling her goodbye. It is very bittersweet for them.

Leaving Hilawe forever and officially becoming part of our family.

Rosa, our Gladney social worker, holding a sleeping Evie.

Her first bath with Daddy at the guest house.

First time getting Evie ready for bed.

Happy girl playing with some toys.

Calling Mommy on Skype! We had great internet connection and I was so so happy to see her in Jason's arms and get to "talk" to her.

Embassy appointment day. A happy girl with her Daddy!

Scenes from the airport. On May 1, 2012 they started the journey home to America.

On May 2, 2012 Evie landed on American soil in Washington DC making her a US Citizen. Then it was on to D/FW where her Mommy and brothers were anxiously waiting for her! She was home at last.
